Why I Focus On Friendships

Dasia Zanders

Almost every story has some sort of connection to the importance of friends and how they are an essential part of development in youth. I think it goes without saying that the Cassadine series has a lot of family and friendship throughout its three novels. I spent a lot of years writing and fixing the relationship dynamics between all my characters with the idea that a slow sense of maturity would eventually come out of all the kids by the time the third book was written. The reason I choose to emphasize emotional bonds in my work is due to first hand experience to seeing how not everyone is fortunate enough to have a supportive family behind them. I decided to use the Cassadine series as an opportunity to show the healthy relationship that can be created between adoptive children and their adoptive parents. I also wanted to display how some friendships can start off rocky, such as Sebastian and Stefan, but can gradually turn into a meaningful connection. I've always been open about my feelings and opinions when it comes to this particular topic and I have no intention on shying away from writing about it. It's difficult to find at least one honest friend especially in the world we're currently living in, but the effect a person can have on someone's life truly can change that person's course. I may not know how many people I might have influenced for the better, but I hope that I can continue to reach out to as many people as I can and help at least one person through my books. Hopefully, my characters like Sebastian, Rosalia, Elizabeth, Stefan, Arbri, and Marcus are inspiring people to be as kind as they can while maintaining healthy friendships that can last a lifetime.
